048: Day 60 June 7, 2021: Wisner to Norfolk NE: 30 miles today and 2010 in total.

Another beautiful flower growing next to the Elkhorn River.

Wow, today is a milestone; we completed 2000 miles on our bicycles and we still like them.
It was hot, hot, hot and windy with the wind always aiming to come from the side or the front. We started earlier today and reached Norfolk around 12:30pm. We went to the Tourist Info center to obtain more information on the Cowboy Trail, our next 193 miles. And thereafter retired to a hotel for an afternoon siesta and a lovely, celebratory meal. Soon after we left Wisner we had this view of the Elkhorn Valley, agriculture just where you look.
We cycled along a very busy road, the 275. Both Christine and I were very happy with the very wide shoulders AND the rumble strips that separated us from the traffic. This is one of the best designs we have seen so far. Yes, guys, I am a retired engineer. I did not pull out my measuring tape to get the width. 😆😆😆
Flowers next to the road
and in the fields
and in the side drains. All beautiful and seen at a very different speed to when you drive past at 60 miles per hour plus.
We noted these cycle/pedestrian paths along flood drainage channels as we entered the outskirts of Norfolk.
The main road into Norfolk first had these ugly strip of businesses along a poorly maintained road.
And then the scenery changed dramatically when we came to 1st Street. The Main Street has lovely shady trees and small businesses. Sadly, a lot of these closed down.
We saw this mural on Main Street and
this one in a more industrial part of Norfolk.
I washed some clothes before we went to Walmart and Menards for small shopping. I was surprised at all the dust after two days' of cycling.
We had our dinner at Whisky Creek Saloon and what a lovely place this is. The food was excellent. I had to box more than half of my ribs and Christine loved her steak. It was the first time ever where a server asked Christine to cut the steak to see if it was as she expected.
Anyway, tomorrow we shall begin with the Cowboy Trail, currently the longest rail trail in the United States. We hope that we would be able to cycle most of this. We heard that some sections are in bad shape and that all the repairs have not been done. Anyway, that is for another day. Good night everybody, wherever you are.  😴😴😴

  1. The tall yellowish flower might be an Orange Mullin. Loved the mural and the sculpture, but most of all the picture of you two at dinner. Prayers continue.
